Instrument Concept, Design & Fabrication: Heather Frasch 2019

Materials: transducers, vibrating surfaces, wood, metal & glass

About: These are a series of kinetic sculptures set into motion during a performance by placing dangling objects onto vibrational surfaces in precarious positions to create erratic sonic textures. The sculptures are constructed in a way so that, as the surfaces heat up, there is a change in their vibrational patterns which shift the movement of the dangling object, creating subtle changes in the resulting sounds. Stillness is essential in the performance to allow the changes in the motion to develop in an unpredictable manner, independent of outside forces. Shadows are used to highlight the minute movements of the sculptures.
